The Saint Comes Marching In

Back from Saint John after a long week. Trips like this – multiple flights, couple hour timezone difference, business conference – tend to suck the life out of you. Not much breathing room, which is why taking the opportunity to wander and shoot is such a nice break from the action. Particularly when the weather finally breaks the sun delivers such much needed energy. I’m a prairie boy – don’t do well with incessant cloud and rain.
Which is what closed off the second last day of the trip. A massive Carnival cruise ship had made its way into Saint John Harbour early in the morning – no offense to the good people of Saint John, but this doesn’t scream “destination port of call” to me – and then made its way out late afternoon. What a massive structure. Dwarfed the dock area and was very likely the tallest structure in the city at that point. Certainly the largest (and nicest) hotel. I had an ideal vantage point from my room as the cap’n spun her around.
Hope the passengers enjoyed their stay.
Here Comes the Sun
With the sun blessedly shining and an equally blessed break in the action for the day I hit the streets to wander once more. Here without any real commentary are some random perspectives around town.
Jay Maisel Wannabe
I have referenced photo legend Jay Maisel on prior occasion. He has a terrific style for street photography and for whatever reason this particular setting – blue construction netting – appealed to me and left thoughts of Jay running through my mind. It started with these two ladies sharing a conversation and the play of the security guard’s yellow jacket against the net. And then on approach the partially obscured view through the net itself. Planted myself there and waited for a pedestrian to pass by and riff off the crossing sign. Was fortuitous that this dude was also wearing a blue shirt.
Always good to get energized from a photowalk as I still had a day-and-a-half to go including several hours on the plane. That said I’m still seeing spiders as I’m still only partially awake.
