The Beginning
As you no doubt can see I have finally activated my personal website. Note: This is why people hire professionals for this sort of thing. The mechanics of setting up a self-hosted WordPress site aren’t actually that hard unless you start getting picky with the setup. There will likely be some growing pains here as I transition from the Blogspot service (which really is excellent but also limiting). MIA on the site are my intended portfolios of favorite photographs. My challenge here is threefold…

Didn’t take long to blow my plan for the daily CR travelog to close off the trip but, as expected, Life got in the way.
Our time in Costa Rica started, frankly, on an abysmal note. Horrible travel and a 22 hour day before getting to our hotel in the dark. Hit the sack with extreme prejudice as completely tired having only about 2 hours sleep the night prior thanks to a completely borked flight plan.

Two-thousand, two-hundred and ninety-two.
The number of photographs I sifted through yesterday following our return from beautiful Costa Rica. Less than I expected, more than is probably reasonable. Without the concern for developing film I don’t need to worry about a cost-per-click other than incremental time spent editing. Doesn’t mean I shouldn’t exercise more discipline – will have to figure that out when I inevitably “upgrade” to a newer, higher megapixel camera. There are lots of brackets and “safety shots” in that pile, and a quarter of them have since been flushed.
That said I ended up with a bunch of shots I’m pretty happy with and will be occupying my time with post-vacay photobook creation, printing, and blogging. Take for example this from an early morning venture onto Playa Tamarindo. And by “venture” I mean “walk outside our hotel door onto beach”.

It’s a cool, crisp, clear morning here on the prairies. Low light and burms of snow make for interesting shape and texture. Conveniently located out of my window.

Three days in to the annual lake sojourn and I was finally compelled to grab the rig and shoot. I’m disappointed that I am currently unable to think of something original so at best this is a variation on past themes.
Had a friend’s son in tow as he’s getting into photography. Above all else was a lesson in patience as this was a 4-minute exposure which came as a surprise to him.
